Loaded imports fell to 34,227 TEUs during the month. Export volume rose marginally in May but are 14.7 percent up for the year to 152,876 TEUs.
'Declines in volume are attributed to retail inventory adjustments and slow demand for consumer goods as a result of the slow U.S. economy,' the port said.
For the year, Tacoma's total volume is up 5.9 percent at 589,340 TEUs.
