Stamford, Conn.-based OMI was dissolved this summer as its fleet was sold to two other tanker companies, Teekay and TORM. The sale came after a yearlong climb in the value of its stock.
Ship Finance named Stevenson, 53, to its board, and will recommend he be named chairman following its annual meeting on Sept. 28. He would take over from Tor Olav Troeim, who will continue as a non-executive board member. Troeim is Fredriksen’s right hand man, and is president and a board member of Frontline and other Fredriksen companies.
Another Ship Finance board member, Svein Aaser, said he has decided to resign in order to focus more of his attention on certain companies where he serves as chairman, such as Marine Harvest ASA, Aktiv Kapaital ASA and Deep Sea Supply Plc. He is also an executive director of Seatankers, an affiliate of Ship Finance’s largest shareholder Hemen Holdings Ltd., which are also part of Fredriksen’s shipping empire.
Ship Finance is a major marine-asset-owning company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It has one of the largest fleets in the world with 71 vessels with a total cargo capacity of more than 11 million dwt.
