Amerijet invests in U.S. trucking firm    Amerijet, a Miami-based air cargo operator and freight forwarder, said it has acquired a majority interest in expedited motor carrier Nations Express to augment its airport delivery and U.S.-Canada truck brokerage service.
   Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
   Nations Express of Charlotte, N.C., operates about 200 tractor-trailers, straight trucks and cargo vans using outsourced owner-operator drivers. As a non-asset-based carrier it also arranges moves with other partner carriers and provides international ocean and air freight intermediary services.
   Amerijet operates a fleet of eight Boeing 727-200 from its hub at Miami International Airport specializing in scheduled and charter service to the Caribbean, Mexico and Central and South America. Earlier this year, it signed a seven-year lease with Cargo Aircraft Management Inc., a subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group (also owner of cargo airline ABX Air), for five Boeing 767-200 aircraft to expand its service frequency and possibly add new long-haul markets. Amerijet offers five flights per week between Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, using the larger 767 aircraft.
   The company has spent the past several years growing its logistics services to include ocean freight consolidation, air freight forwarding, and inland trucking.
   Last week, the airline said it acquired a stake in Florida-based SRX Transcontinental which provides ground handling service in Central Asia and owns Avialeasing Aviation Co., an Uzbekistan airline that provides air freight charter service with Antonov AN-12 and AN-26 cargo planes that are equipped to handle heavy and oversize loads.
   Amerijet said the deal would support its customers in the energy sectors and efforts to establish operations in Central Asia where it anticipates substantial growth during the next decade. ' Eric Kulisch
