Los Angeles port to hold rail festival

Los Angeles port to hold rail festival Ship and rail meet on April 21 as the Port of Los Angeles hosts a Rail Festival featuring six locomotives and cars from the port's past as well as the latest 'green' locomotives.
   The festival, to be held at the Sixth Street and Harbor Boulevard rail yard in San Pedro, is part of the port's ongoing centennial celebration.
   The centerpiece of the festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is Engine 3751, a historic steam-powered locomotive owned and operated by the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society. Also featured will be several private cars, an Amtrak Dinette Car, and the latest in green technology locomotives. All cars will be available for viewing.
   On hand will be representatives from the Lomita Railroad Museum, MTA, the Orange Empire Railway Museum, Southern California Traction Club and the Port of Los Angeles' Centennial pavilion. The port's Waterfront Red Car Line, with authentic and replicated Pacific Electric Red Cars, will be offering free rides all day, and serving as a shuttle service from offsite parking.
