Maersk to charge EU advanced manifest fee    Maersk Line said last week it will begin assessing a $25 fee per bill of lading for all European Union-bound cargo due to the start of the EU's Advanced Manifest Rule Jan. 1.
   The rule requires liner carriers to submit an entry summary declaration to the first EU port of call at least 24 hours before cargo is loaded onto the vessel bound for the EU.
   Maersk’ Cargo Data Declaration (CDD) fee is applicable to all import shipments with a final discharge port in EU countries implementing the new customs rule.
   Maersk said in a statement that the charge covers 'day-to-day operating and administrative costs, the costs of interfacing with customs through third party service providers, the fixed IT and administrative costs of establishing interface either directly or through a third party to customs, and handling amendments to the advance manifest (to be reviewed after four months).'
   The CDD fee would apply if a shipment with final discharge in the United States is being transshipped via a European port. The fee won't apply to shipments moving within the 27 EU member states.
