Port Everglades names admin director

   Alan Hill, a 19-year veteran of the Port Everglades port authority in Broward County, Fla., has been promoted to director of administration, the port said.
   It’s the second major position filled in the past week by new Chief Executive Steve Cernak, who named former Long Beach port official Michael Vanderbeek as director of business development.
   Hill has been acting director of business development for six months after Carlos Buqueras left to become port director of Port Manatee. He previously was assistant director for business development. He now replaces Pia Thompson, who recently retired as director of administration.
   He will be responsible for procurement, property management, contract administration, business permits, human resources, labor relations and other activities.
   Hill has been part of the negotiating teams in recent years that locked up long-term lease arrangements with cruise operator Royal Caribbean and container lines such as CSAV, Hapag Lloyd, and Mediterranean Shipping Co.
