Emirates SkyCargo, Cargolux ink partnership in Munich

The two airfreight carriers will cooperate on aircraft capacity, block space and interline hub connectivity and cargo handling, according to Emirates SkyCargo.    Emirates SkyCargo and Luxembourg-based Cargolux inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on cargo airfreight services at the Air Cargo Europe conference in Munich, Germany, Emirates SkyCargo said in a statement.
   According to Emirates SkyCargo, the partnership will focus on operational aspects including aircraft capacity, block space and interline, hub connectivity and cargo handling. The cargo airline said said they will utilize Boeing 747 aircraft from Cargolux, while Cargolux will gain access to Emirates SkyCargo’s distribution network through the belly-hold of passenger flights.
   Emirates SkyCargo will commence freighter operations to Luxembourg from June 2017 and cargo from both companies will be handled at the same facility in Luxembourg, said Emirates SkyCargo. Cargolux will also increase the frequency of freighters to Dubai World Central (DWC), where cargo will be handled by Emirates SkyCargo, from its current thrice-weekly service.
   “Cargolux is delighted to be working with Emirates SkyCargo on this agreement,” said Richard Forson, Cargolux president and CEO. “As one of the leading carriers worldwide, Emirates SkyCargo is an important player in the industry as Cargolux is, and our supplementary capabilities allow us to develop service offerings that both of us could not provide on our own.”
