OOCL expanded Kaohsiung terminal    OOCL said Monday it has ordered two super-post-Panamax gantry cranes for its Kaohsiung Container Terminal (KAOCT) in the Port of Kaohsiung.
   The crane purchases are part of a project to expand capacity at KAOCT, which already has six post-Panamax cranes in operation. Two will be replaced by the new cranes, which each have the length to reach across 22 rows outreach and will enable the terminal to handle two 10,000-TEU container vessels at the same time. Another facet of the expansion project is extending the terminal's berth from 680 meters to 755 meters.
   The cranes are expected to be operational by July 2012. OOCL said it estimates the new cranes will increase KAOCT's productivity by 8 percent to 10 percent, helping to shorten vessel-berthing hours for bunker savings and reduced carbon emissions.
