United releases carbon-neutral shipping tool

   United Airlines has unveiled CarbonChoice, which allows shippers to track their carbon footprint and offset carbon emissions through partner Sustainable Travel International, giving customers carbon-neutral shipping options.
   For the carbon calculation, United takes into account aircraft flight data including the route flown and seasonality, and the weight of each shipment, using the information in a calculation in line with recommendations by the International Air Transport Association.
   “United Cargo shippers consistently tell us they’re focused on understanding their company’s environmental impact, and they’ve asked us specifically for a large-scale program like this,” United’s new vice president of cargo, Jan Krems, said in a statement. “CarbonChoice provides our customers the detailed data they need to better achieve their own companies’ sustainability commitments.”
