Malaysian minister: Cap traffic in Malacca Strait Malaysia has proposed limiting traffic in the Malacca Strait.
   The Malaysia Star newspaper said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak proposed Tuesday to limit the number of vessels plying the Malacca Strait, one of the world’s busiest waterways, for safety reasons.
   The Associated Press quoted Razak as saying traffic had jumped from about 44,000 ships in 1999 to more than 70,000 last year, and that some experts were estimating that number could climb to 120,000 by 2015.
   He indicated that at some level, increased traffic could become dangerous or too costly to control.
   Malaysia has reportedly spent more than 200 million ringgit ($60.6 million) on navigational aids in the straits.
