Design features of the vessels include the bow being rounded and beveled along the bow line to help reduce pressure from headwinds.
The Japanese carrier said the design reduces leeway caused by wind pressure, resulting in a 5 percent improvement in fuel efficiency, therefore reducing noxious emissions and improving speed.
MOL said it will now market the design to other shipping companies “to help reduce the environmental impact of the shipping industry, and to encourage broader use.”
