Maersk to cut calls on NASA loop Maersk Line has responded to a 'challenging operating environment' by shortening the rotation on its weekly U.S. East Coast/East Coast South America NASA service.
   The service is ending calls at Florida's Port Everglades, Itajai and Salvador in Brazil and a northbound call at Kingston, Jamaica, and follows the late-October merger of its NASA 1 and NASA 2 loops.
   'By providing a direct service from ECSA to the U.S, with no port calls in Central America or the Caribbean, we take a significant advantage against our competitors in regards to schedule reliability in what is presently a challenging operating environment,' Maersk said in a statement.
   Effective from the voyage of the 'Maersk Nanhai' from Rio Grande Dec. 31, the new rotation will be New York, Philadelphia, Charleston, Rio Grande, Sao Francisco do Sul, Santos, Suape and back to New York.
