Rickenbacker sees further development in the near future

The cargo-dedicated airport plans to build a new air cargo terminal and a new air traffic control tower.    Rickenbacker International Airport, in Columbus, Ohio, announced the construction of a 100,000-square-foot air cargo terminal, scheduled to be ready for occupancy by mid-2016, and a new air traffic control tower, scheduled to become operational in early 2016, as a result of public-private partnership.
   The air cargo terminal is being constructed on land that the Columbus Regional Airport Authority will lease to Distribution Land Corp. (DLC), which will construct the facility and lease the space to various companies.
   The State of Ohio, JobsOhio and the City of Columbus will partner with DLC and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority to fund the new air cargo terminal and related infrastructure. State funding is essential for the project and is dependent upon the Controlling Board’s approval, Rickenbacker said in a statement.
   The Franklin County Board of Commissioners, in partnership with the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, are financing the construction of the new air traffic control tower, which will replace the existing, outdated 1950s-built tower.
   The Columbus Regional Airport Authority is contributing over $9 million towards the developments, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners is contributing $1.75 million, the City of Columbus is contributing $1.5 million and the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Development Services Agency are contributing $1.02 million.
