Long Beach, “K” Line and ITS sign environmental pact in Tokyo
Representatives of the Port of Long Beach, shipping line Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. and container terminal operator International Transportation Service Inc. signed an agreement Monday in Tokyo reaffirming the three parties’ commitment to work together to further international trade and environmental stewardship, the port said.The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have been on an environmental offensive in recent months, including adoption of a proposed clean air plan that seeks to induce port tenants to reduce thousands of tons of diesel air pollution from port activities.
On Monday, a port delegation led by Harbor Commission President James C. Hankla and Executive Director Richard Steinke met with “K” Line President and Chief Executive Officer Hiroyuki Maekawa and ITS President Sho Ishitobi in a ceremony to celebrate a June 22 preferential assignment agreement.
