DOJ approves Alaska Air’s acquisition of Virgin America

Alaska Air Group was not required to divest any assets in order to get clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice for its acquisition of Virgin America.    The U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division has approved Alaska Air Group’s acquisition of Virgin America.
   Alaska said it was not required to divest any assets as a condition of DOJ clearance.
   However, Alaska did agree to implement limited changes to its codeshare agreement with American Airlines, but the majority of the codeshare flights between the two companies will remain intact.
   The DOJ did not require modifications to any other agreements between Alaska and American Airlines.
   Alaska said it plans to close the transaction “in the very near future.”
