Odyssey Logistics opens metal transload facility

Located in the Chicago-metro area, the new facility will be operated by Odyssey subsidiary CMI Logistics and is expected to increase throughput by 20 percent, according to Odyssey President and CEO Bob Shellman.    Odyssey Logistics and Technology Corp., recently opened a new metals transload and warehousing facility in Joliet, Ill., in order to increase throughput by up to 20 percent, said Bob Shellman, president and CEO of Odyssey.
   The 121,680-square-foot facility is operated by Odyssey subsidiary CMI Logistics LLC. The facility features ten docks, three drive-through bays, reinforced slab floors, 16 trailer positions and 6,000 square feet of office space, said Odyssey.
   Located near Interstates 55 and 80 at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center, the facility provides access to the BNSF intermodal rail yards through the center’s heavyweight road system. 
   “This new facility makes it easier for our partner-carriers to get in and out quickly. The old rail yard and congested highway system in metro-Chicago posed many challenges for the industry,” said Paul Sever, executive vice president and general manager of CMI.
   “Because our business is focused on the intermodal movement of metals, it is imperative for us to be located near intermodal ramps and highway infrastructure. This new facility accomplishes that,” he added.
   Odyssey Logistics handles international transportation management, intermodal services and trucking services in North America, Europe and the Fast East.
   Wholly-owned subsidiary CMI specializes as an intermodal service provider of metal products including heavy coils. The company moves roughly 35,000 containers annually.
