CBP parks Land Border Carrier Initiative Program

CBP parks Land Border Carrier Initiative Program    U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a Tuesday Federal Register notice that it will officially end its Land Border Carrier Initiative Program (LBCIP), effective March 10.
   LBCIP was established as a voluntary industry partnership program through which participating motor and rail carriers would agree to enhance the security of their facilities and equipment to prevent illegal drug traffic from entering the United States.
   Since CBP now has a more comprehensive voluntary industry partnership program, known as the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism in place, it has decided to end LBCIP and focus its partnership efforts on the further development of C-TPAT.
   C-TPAT, which CBP started in 2001, builds on the best practices of LBCIP, while 'providing greater border and supply chain security with expanded benefits to approved participants,' the agency said.
