iGPS names former environmental official to board Intelligent Global Pooling Systems, the Orlando-based provider of high-tech shipping pallets, has named former California Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Terry Tamminen to its board of directors.
   iGPS, provides a pool of all-plastic pallets that are equipped with radio frequency identification tags. The company said its RFID pallets are an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wooden pallets, which require special treatment to prevent the spread of pest insects.
   “Terry enjoys an unmatched commitment to and reputation for sound environmental policy — and real action — around the world,” said Bob Moore, chief executive officer of iGPS. “His breadth of knowledge, worldwide relationships and current activities in the area of sustainability will be invaluable to us as we continue to grow the supply chain’s premier, environmentally friendly pallet pooling system.'
   Tamminen is director of the New America Foundation's Climate Policy Program in Washington, which was formed in March 2007 to implement a national response to climate change issues and encourage state and local governments worldwide to implement policies that would reduce carbon dioxide emissions. He was selected to head the California EPA in 2003.
