Evergreen makes system mobile

   Evergreen Line has launched a mobile app version of its e-commerce system, ShipmentLink Mobile, for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and mobile devices based on the Android operating system.
   The ocean carrier said the launch was to provide customers with a better way to reach the growing number of workers that rely on mobile devices. Smartphone users can access Evergreen’s shipping information from the app or www.shipmentlink.com.
   This system lets customers search sailing schedules, track shipments, check the progress of cargo releases, and find contact deals and information for Evergreen.
   The move by Evergreen is part of a growing trend among liner carriers. Research firm Canalys also reported that 487.7 million smartphones were sold in 2011, beating out total sales of laptops, desktops, and tablets at 414.6 million.
