Bahamas ratifies ILO seafarer labor standards The government of the Bahamas has ratified the maritime labor standards adopted at the Maritime Labor Convention of 2006 by the International Labor Organization.
   The Bahamas is the third nation with a major ship registry to adopt the standards. The Bahamas has the third-largest registry in the world. The ILO standards were previously ratified by Liberia and the Marshall Islands, two other major international registry countries.
   The 2006 convention led to what has been described as a 'seafarers' bill of rights.' It has also been depicted at a 'third pillar' of international shipping standards, following previous standards related to environmental practices and security standards.
