MTMC, INDUSTRY TO DISCUSS SOUTHEAST LOGISTICS CONTRACT

   The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command will meet with third-party logistics providers Thursday to discuss a proposed contract to outsource the military’s cargo distribution in the U.S. Southeast.
   The contract, valued at $32 million, will be awarded to a single
logistics provider and will cover the military’s domestic freight
distribution for 29 installations, including four large Defense Logistics
Agency depots, in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. These installations make about 50,000 shipments a year.
   The selected 3PL will manage distribution of general commodities, such as medical equipment, ship and aircraft parts, and vehicles. The initial contract will not include classified goods, explosives or bulk fuels.
   "The purpose of the meeting is to give the industry the opportunity to
tell us what’s commercial practice and what’s not," said Frank Galluzzo,
director of MTMC’s Distribution Analysis Center.
   The meeting will be held at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, Va.
More than 60 logistics firms are expected to attend.
   MTMC will review comments from the industry in December, solicit bids by January or February. A contract may be awarded as early as April.
