FMC learns about PierPass and other terminal concerns

FMC learns about PierPass and other terminal concerns    The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission said it held a briefing this month with members of the National Association of Waterfront Employers to gain a better understanding of issues and concerns impacting the country’s marine terminal operators.
During the briefing, terminal operators told the commission about improvements brought to their operations at the Southern California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach through the PierPass program.
Other topics included the impact of increasing cargo volumes and limited terminal, rail and highway capacity; additional ways to keep cargo moving through the country’s transportation grid; and the need to coordinate with local, state and federal authorities.
National Association of Waterfront Employers members who presented at the hearing were Basil Maher, chief operating officer of Maher Terminals; David Adams, executive vice president of operations for Marine Terminals Corp.; Patrick Hall, senior vice president of Cooper/T. Smith Stevedoring; Jon Hemingway, president of SSA Marine; Art Merrick, president of Long Beach Container Terminal; Robert Scavone, executive vice president of P&O Ports; and Tom Simmers, chief executive officer of Ceres Terminals.
