Hanes maker opens new West Coast DC

Hanes maker opens new West Coast DC Innerwear and hosiery manufacturer Hanesbrands Inc. on Wednesday began shipping from a newly leased 1.3 million-square-foot West Coast distribution center, with the goal of maximizing supply chain efficiencies from Asian suppliers shipping through the nearby Southern California ports.
   Located about 70 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in the city of Perris, the new facility is the largest operated by the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based maker of the Hanes, Playtex and L'Eggs brands and replaces a 360,000-square-foot facility located nearby.
   The new facility, which is expected to be fully utilized by April, will more than quadruple the firm's West Coast distribution capacity and generate about 650 local jobs.
   Hanesbrands has retained Cherry Hill, N.J.-based third-party logistics provider NFI Industries to manage the facility.
   According to Colliers International, which represented Hanesbrands in the lease transaction, the total lease consideration was just under $54 million.
   The DC was built to strict U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, Hanesbrands said.
   The $4.5 billion-a-year Hanesbrands has about 50,000 employees in more than 25 countries.
