Kalmar starts automation unit

Kalmar starts automation unit    Swedish Kalmar Industries, provider of heavy-duty materials handling equipment to ports, has established a business unit to focus on the marketing and development of on-board smart features for container handling equipment, integrated systems and remote maintenance products.
   The new company, Kalmar Intelligence & Automation, is located in Tampere, Finland. According to Kalmar, the new unit’s primary responsibilities will include implementation of automation delivery projects and round-the-clock customer support.
   Jorma Tirkkonen has been appointed president of the new unit. Tirkkonen was president of Kalmar Sales Co. for the Americas and Kalmar Trailer Logistics business segment.
