EGL PLANS EXPANSION OF INTERNATIONAL FREIGHTER SERVICES    EGL Inc., the Dallas-based forwarder that recently merged with Circle International, said that it is is planning to expand its international freighter activities with the launch of a transatlantic service.
   The move will follow the start on Oct. 16 of a twice-weekly transpacific MD-11 freighter service.
   EGL is extending its U.S. domestic charter operations internationally, a spokesman for the company in Europe said.
   The transpacific service stops at Austin, Texas; Los Angeles, Calif.; Honololu, Hawaii; Guam; Taipei, Taiwan; and Austin. The service, which provides guaranteed space and feeds into the company’s U.S. charter system, has been so successful that EGL is now looking at starting a service to connect the U.S. Midwest and central Europe, the spokesman said.
   EGL had first considered starting a round-the-world freighter service, but decided to start with a transpacific-only service “because of the high yields available on cargoes between Asia and the U.S.,” the spokesman added.
   EGL is the largest domestic heavy-weight air freight forwarder in the U.S.
