January growth at COSCO terminals    Terminal operator COSCO Pacific said Wednesday its January container volume rose 19.7 percent to 3.8 million TEUs.
   Significant gains were recorded at all of the 20 terminals in which the COSCO Group subsidiary has a stake, headlined by near 88 percent growth at its terminal in Nansha and 26.6 percent growth at Dalian.
   COSCO terminals in major ports beleaguered by diminished demand in 2009 had promising growth in January, including a 20.3 percent gain in Hong Kong, an 8.3 percent hike in Yantian and a 7.7 percent gain through its Shanghai terminals. The Bohai Bay ports of Tianjin and Qingdao saw growth of 15.7 and 11.1 percent, respectively during January.
   As with any volume figures emerging in early 2010, the numbers should be considered in the context of the historically low volumes that ports handled in early 2009.
