SCI, a joint venture between Foothill Ranch, Calif.-based development company Stirling Enterprises and DCT Industrial Trust Inc., A Denver, Colo.-based industrial real estate investment trust firm, said the new Class A industrial building should be completed by the end of the year.
It is the fifth major building to start construction during the first phase of development at the SCLC, a reuse project to transform the 8,500-acre former George Air Force Base into one of the largest combined rail, ground and air transportation centers on the West Coast. SCI and the City of Victorville are working as a public/private partnership to developing the project, which includes planned construction of 65 million square feet of development, a 2,500-acre Southern California Logistics Airport facility, and a 3,500-acre rail facility.
The new SCI building will be located at the SCLC on a 46-acre site and when finished would bring the total of completed structures at the SCLC to more than 2 million square feet by year's end.
Other SCLC first phase development includes a 408,000-square-foot Rubbermaid West Coast distribution facility that opened in October 2007, two multitenant industrial buildings totaling about 225,000 square feet set for completion in March, and a nearly 300,000-square-foot distribution center set to be completed in June.
