Intermarine receives third heavy-lift ship from ENVC

Intermarine receives third heavy-lift ship from ENVC New Orleans-based breakbulk and heavy-lift specialist Intermarine has taken delivery of the third in a series of six 8,000-deadweight-ton heavy-lift ships that it is adding to its fleet over the next 12 months.
   The 'Industrial Dawn' was delivered earlier in January by the ENVC shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal. The ship was positioned to Santos, Brazil, where it carried a full load of wind power components to Albany, N.Y. Subsequently, the vessel will proceed to Wilmington, Del., and New Orleans to load project cargoes and containers for Trinidad.
   The ENVC vessels feature holds with adjustable 'tweendecks for ease and flexibility in stowage and cargo handling, two 250-ton combinable cranes, and the ability to carry heavy cargo while maintaining relatively shallow drafts so that the ships can economically service remote project developments.
   'Our style of service is different from that of most breakbulk and heavy-lift operators. We need vessels that provide more versatility than traditional designs,' said Andre Grikitis, Intermarine's president, who has recently taken over from the late Roger Kavanagh.
   When all six ships in the series are delivered in 2008, Intermarine’s fleet will feature 13 of the ENVC mid-sized heavy lift ships.
