Record rail volume at Port of Felixstowe    The Port of Felixstowe in the United Kingdom said its two rail terminals handled a record 8,473 containers in the week ending Sept. 9, breaking the previous record of 7,983 units, set in October last year.
   The port is holding discussions with four train operators to secure an additional daily service, which would become the 25th daily departure from the port.
   “We are dedicated to transporting as many containers as possible by rail, thus easing pressure on the country’s road network,” said Chris Lewis, chief executive officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Ltd., owners and operators of the port. “However, these record volumes, and the ever-increasing demand for rail, highlight the need to improve freight capacity on the railway network to enable us to sustain growth and maintain customer satisfaction.”
