Grand Alliance carriers to move to SCT    Grand Alliance carriers Hapag-Lloyd, CP Ships, NYK and OOCL will from September consolidate all calls in the United Kingdom to Southampton Container Terminals from Thamesport.
   Three Grand Alliance services — Gulf Atlantic Express (GAX), Gulf Mexico Express (GMX), and Pacific Atlantic Express (PAX) — will make the switch from Thamesport to Southampton along with three Hapag-Lloyd operated services: St. Lawrence Coordinated Service (SLCS), Med Pacific Service, and European Express Service.
   The Grand Alliance’s Asia/Europe services already call at Southampton. Following September’s switch, member lines of the alliance will offer 11 weekly European services at SCT.
   SCT said it will spend '15 million ($27.7 million) on two quayside gantry cranes and eight new straddle carriers to cope with the rush of new business.
