ICAO to look into flight-tracking improvements

   In a meeting regarding global flight tracking, the International Civil Aviation Organization has developed an industry plan on the short-term needs for enhanced flight tracking and has paved the way for longer-term efforts.
   The new developments will be introduced by an Aircraft Tracking Task Force lead by the International Air Transport Association. ICAO will also start looking into the sharing of flight-tracking data and the implementation of industry-wide standards.
   “Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has been an unprecedented event for aviation, and we have responded here in a similarly unprecedented manner,” ICAO Council President Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu said in a statement.  “While our flight safety work logically focuses the majority of our energy and resources on accident prevention, everyone in our sector also deeply sympathizes with the families of this lost aircraft’s passengers and crew.”
