MOL releases latest performance metrics

The liner carrier MOL on Wednesday released its latest North American key performance metrics for July, as well as its quarterly on-time vessel arrival figures.
Among 11 metrics MOL publishes, the carrier improved on three, worsened on two and held steady on the others from June. Improvements came on U.S.-to-Asia export missed vessel connections due to rail errors, documentation accuracy between Asia and the United States in both directions, and on in-terminal truck turnaround times in Oakland.
Truck turnaround times in Los Angeles, however, worsened slightly from June, as did lost call percentage and telephone wait times.
MOL did, however, meet internal goals for its KPIs in all categories except documentation accuracy. American Shipper chronicled MOL’s efforts to improve documentation accuracy in its August issue.
MOL began publishing its KPI performance on a monthly basis in February. The results are posted in greater detail at www.CountOnMOL.com.
As for vessel schedule reliability, MOL’s on-time performance improved in the second quarter in four of the five trades it reports on, with Asia-U.S East Coast the only trade showing a slight decline, from 82 percent in the first quarter to 81 percent in the second.
Asia-U.S. West Coast on-time performance rose from 72 percent in the first quarter to 87 percent in the second. Asia-Northern Europe rose from 80 percent to 87 percent. Transatlantic on-time rates rose from 77 percent to 97 percent, while Asia-Mediterranean rose from 42 percent to 70 percent.
For MOL-operated vessels only, Asia-U.S. West Coast on-time rates went from 75 percent to 85 percent, while Asia-U.S. East Coast went from 100 percent to 93 percent. Asia-Northern Europe held steady at 96 percent, while Asia-Mediterranean on-time performance slipped from 100 percent to 66 percent. Transatlantic went from 71 percent to 100 percent.
“Good weather conditions and a reduction in port congestion resulted in the improvement of West Coast service on-time performance, while rough seas attributed to some minor delays,” the carrier said. “Although MOL-operated vessels were mostly on time, overall East Coast performance was severely affected by the ongoing port congestion issues in Panama.” – Eric Johnson
