U.K. coastguard detains chemical tanker The United Kingdom’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency on Monday detained a Liberian-flagged chemical tanker in Falmouth after numerous faults were identified on board not in accordance with International Safety Management (ISM).
   The 7,955-ton Rachel B has been allowed to remain in Falmouth while repairs are undertaken. The 117-meter tanker was built in 1987 and falls under the American Bureau of Shipping classification.
   “The owners of the vessel, Zarepta Chemical KS in Norway, have been informed of the decision to detain this vessel,” said Tony Heslop, surveyor in charge from the MCA’s Plymouth office. “All shipping is under an obligation to conform to international legislation. The MCA takes shipping safety extremely seriously, and we will not allow vessels to traverse our waters where clearly international standards of safety are being breached.”
