Schwab selected as deputy trade representative

Schwab selected as deputy trade representative    President Bush on Friday nominated Susan C. Schwab to be deputy U.S. trade representative.
   Schwab was president of the University of Maryland Foundation from 1995 to 2004.
   Schwab began her career as an agricultural trade negotiator for the USTR in 1977. She was an assistant secretary of commerce and director general of the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service under the first President Bush.
   The USTR office didn’t indicate that she was closely involved in trade related matters during the past decade.
   Schwab would replace Peter Allegeier, who resigned last spring, but stayed on until the administration found a successor.
   Robert Portman is the U.S. Trade Representative.
