10-digit U.S. HTS code changes now available

10-digit U.S. HTS code changes now available The U.S. government published in the Federal Register today the proclamation signed last month by President Bush formalizing the U.S. changes to the 2007 Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
The new tariffs will go into effect Feb. 3, although U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have promised to give importers an additional grace period of 15 days before enforcing the new tariff classifications and other rules for certain goods.
The International Trade Commission, which sets the U.S. product number code out to 10 digits, has posted the U.S. tariff changes, minus World Customs Organization amendments, on its Web site https://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/bychapter/index.htm.
Revisions to the rules governing how to shift tariffs from 2006 to 2007 schedules that apply to the North American Free Trade Agreement may not be implemented until late February, which is later than previously anticipated, according to a client alert from trade law firm Pisani & Roll.
The firm also noted that the 2007 Mexican Tariff Schedule has been approved and is currently being processed.
