Cathay, Dragonair cargo up 3.5% in November

Cathay, Dragonair cargo up 3.5% in November Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways and sister airline Dragonair carried a combined 152,875 tons of freight in November, a 3.5 percent rise year-on-year.
   The two airlines’ monthly cargo and mail load factor fell 1.5 percentage points year-on-year to 69.8 percent while capacity, measured in available cargo and mail ton kilometers, increased 6.8 percent.
   For the year to date, the combined cargo tonnage has grown 3 percent to 1.49 million tons against a capacity rise of 6.9 percent.
   “We were pleased to see another month of tonnage growth, though it continued to lag behind capacity growth,” said Ron Mathison, Cathay Pacific’s director and general manager cargo.
   “Moving into the pre-Christmas peak, demand remained high on most key routes, particularly from the major Mainland China cities. However, the Northeast Asia market remains soft and yields are significantly down,' he said.
