Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has implemented a new computer
system for its Asian operations.
The "Starnet" system replaces previous on-line systems for
shipping documentation in Asia. It can handle vessel space management, equipment
management, booking, container and cargo transshipment, shipping documentation and
electronic data interchange.
The integrated system design is based on the computer systems that MOL
introduced in North America in 1994 and in South America in 1997.
MOL said that the Starnet system will improve efficiency in booking,
equipment control, container transshipment and shipping documentation.
