Barcelona terminal gets new quay cranes

   Terminal Catalunya (TERCAT) said Tuesday it has taken delivery of four super-post-Panamax quay cranes for its new container terminal at Muelle Prat, doubling the number of these cranes at the facility.
   Hutchison Port Holdings-managed TERCAT, due to open in mid-2012, has also received 15 automatic stacking cranes and 11 shuttle carriers (used to move containers from the quayside to the yard) with another 21 stacking cranes and nine shuttle carriers on order.
   The terminal in Barcelona, Spain, will have 1,500 meters of berth, a draft of 16.5 meters and a 100 hectare yard, making it the largest in the city’s port, and is designed to handle the mega-vessels increasingly plying the trade from Asia to Europe.
