Gina jokes again

   Al Gina, assistant commissioner for international trade at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, has a knack for warming up the crowd with jokes when he speaks in public. Last time I wrote about him on this page, he was trying out his comedy at the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America’s event last fall.
   This time he was at the National Association of Foreign Trade Zones legislative conference in Washington on Feb. 7.
   Talking about the agency’s development of the Automated Commercial Environment and the complexity of transitioning from the legacy data management system, Gina said: “I’m technologically ignorant, so thank God I have other colleagues. I’m the one who when I don’t know what to do on my computer, I call people.
   “And they look at me like, ‘You’re an idiot.’ And I say, ‘Tsk, tsk. Because of idiots like me you have a job.’ ” — Eric Kulisch
