UPS provides grant for micro-lender ACCION

UPS provides grant for micro-lender ACCION ACCION International, a micro-finance specialist that provides assistance to entrepreneurs in Latin America and Florida, said Tuesday it received a $400,000 grant from UPS as part of the UPS Centennial Grant program.
   Boston-based ACCION is a noted specialist in microlending, with a focus on high-population countries such as Brazil and Mexico. But the company has also provided money for micro-entrepreneurs in the United States, primarily in Florida, Georgia, and Massachusetts.
   UPS announced last month that it would provide $1 million for micro-loans in commemoration of the company's 100th anniversary. UPS stems from a company started by Jim Casey in 1907. Casey borrowed $100 to start a bicycle messenger company when he was 19 years old.
