UPS says it’s ready for holiday volumes    UPS said it is ramping up for the holiday shopping season by hiring about 60,000 seasonal workers, adding 7,000 vehicles to increase its fleet of trucks and vans to nearly 100,000, and leasing 31 cargo jets.
   The Atlanta-based package delivery company said package volume during the holiday season will balloon from roughly 15 million packages per day to 21 million on the busiest day.
   UPS’s peak day will occur on Dec. 20, with 240 package deliveries per second. Two days later air shipments will reach their peak when UPS projects it will delivery about 5.6 million packages.
   Analysts expects strong online shopping to increase demand for shipping services.
   FedEx has said it’s peak day will be Dec. 18, when 9.8 million packages move through its system.
