SHIPPING COORDINATING COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS SHIP DESIGN, EQUIPMENT    The Shipping Coordinating Committee’s Subcommittee on Ship Design and Equipment will meet Nov. 16 at the U.S. Coast Guard’s headquarters in Washington to discuss ship pollution, life raft equipment and bulk carrier and oil tanker inspection guidelines.
   The meeting, co-sponsored by the Coast Guard and State Department, is to prepare U.S. government representatives for the 44th session of the Subcommittee of Ship Design and Equipment of the International Maritime Organization. The meeting will be held at IMO’s headquarters in London on March 5-9.
   The IMO develops international agreements, guidelines, and standards for the maritime industry. These actions often become the basis for class society rules and national regulations.
   “This open meeting serves an excellent forum for the public to express their ideas and participate in the international rulemaking process,” said a State Department notice about the Washington meeting.
