DHL brings day-definite LTL service to Europe

   DHL Freight has unveiled an less-than-truckload European service that offers day-definite lead times and priority service.
   Eurapid is now available for shipments of up to 2.5 tons traveling within 14 countries across Europe. According to DHL officials, more service areas will open up in the next few months.
   “Our customers want higher frequencies, proactive customer service and extremely reliable delivery execution for advanced supply chain concepts,” DHL’s Amandou Diallo said in a statement. “Short product life cycles, for example in the technology or fashion and apparel business, further add to this growing demand.”
   Competitive lead times are the basis of the new service, DHL said. As an example, company officials cited a shipment time between Frankfurt and Barcelona of 24 hours. Eurapid shipments have a dedicated customer service team and can be tracked online.
   Dangerous goods can also be shipped with the program, which includes value-added services like cargo insurance and customs clearance. – Jon Ross
