Dragonair’s March cargo up 6.6%

Dragonair’s March cargo up 6.6%    Hong Kong-based Dragonair transported 36,262 tons of freight in March, up 6.6 percent compared to 34,012 tons carried in the same month 2005.
   For the year to date, Dragonair has lifted 92,281 tons, an 8.1 percent increase from 85,395 tons moved after the first quarter of 2005.
   “We carried the second-highest amount of cargo in our history in March. The rise was a reflection of the return to normal of manufacturing and trading activity after the Chinese New Year holidays in the previous months,” said Stanley Hui, Dragonair’s chief executive officer.
   “Meanwhile, fuel prices have kept on rising to new highs, resulting in further bottom-line pressure. This, combined with a more open market and more competition, is making the operating environment very difficult at present despite the better passenger and cargo numbers,” Hui said.
