The new plane is to fill the gap in capacity from delayed delivery of its first new Boeing 747-8F. Boeing was to deliver the 747-8F this year, but has pushed back the timetable until February 2011. The 747-8F offers 16 percent more capacity than the 747-400 freighter.
AirBridge said the extra plane would allow it to increase the number of frequencies from Shanghai to 12 per week.
The additional investment increases AirBridge's fleet to eight freighters, including two 747-200s and one 747-300.
