Built by GTX Corp., the device has been approved for use on AirNet and Cargolux planes.
“The GTX tracking system gives us the ability to better identify and resolve any unforeseen challenges throughout the entire transport,” Scott Cannon, MNX’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “By providing our clients with real-time tracking of their shipments, MNX will offer an unmatched layer of service, security, temperature integrity and reliability.”
Measuring location, speed, bearing, altitude and temperature, the device provides live data to customers while in flight. All this comes in a tiny package, and according to a press release, the device can fit in even the smallest packages. The company is working to expand its offering to other airlines.
The introduction of GPS tracking devices for shipments has become somewhat of a trend in the air cargo industry. In July, Southwest Airlines introduced its Cargo Companion product, an asset-tracking device that monitors location, shock, temperature, light, humidity and pressure of shipped goods. OnAsset Intelligence manufactures Southwest’s model, and the company also lists Delta, American Airlines and Air Canada among its clients. – Jon Ross
