MOL to publish key performance indicators

Japanese liner carrier MOL, which recently announced a plan to begin publishing key performance indicators for its operations, environmental, and safety, said its U.S. subsidiary, MOL America, will supplement that effort by publishing a wider array of statistics detailing how the company is doing in areas such as customer service, electronic data interchange, and U.S. terminal operations.
The indicators are published on a special Website, which indicates what the company’s goals are in various areas and whether it’s meeting or exceeding them. The key performance indicators cover the following:
  • Operations, including vessel on-time performance on its major east-west services and in-terminal truck turn time at the company’s TraPac terminals in Jacksonville, Los Angeles and Oakland.
  • Customer service, such as lost call percentages, telephone wait times, export bill of lading documentation completion rates.
  • Environmental measures, such as reduction in nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and reduction of carbon dioxide by TEU per mile.
  • Safety, with a goal of having no “long-time” operational stoppages due to things such as malfunctions of vessel equipment (engines, electric equipment, etc.) or marine incidents (strandings, collisons, etc.)
  • Electronic-data-interchange measures, including message processing without failure, EDI uptime, customer set-up time, and customer scorecard compliance.
