Pollution response exercise underway at Port Everglades

Pollution response exercise underway at Port Everglades The U.S. Coast Guard and a multiagency group known as the Southeast Florida Area Committee are holding a full-scale pollution response exercise at Port Everglades today and Tuesday.
   The activities are part of the ongoing National Preparedness for Response Exercise Program involving federal and regional entities. The Southeast Florida Area Committee includes representatives from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Coast Guard Sector Miami, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Broward Sheriff’s Fire and Rescue, Broward County Emergency Management Agency, City of Fort Lauderdale emergency Management, City of Hollywood Emergency Management, private sector fuel services companies Chevron Oil, Marathon Oil, South Florida Petroleum, and Cliff Berry Inc.
   The exercise includes a simulated pollution incident, with the various responders working together to address the situation. The Broward County Sheriff's Office fire and rescue unit and the Coast Guard preceded this week's exercise with a boom deployment training and testing operation last Thursday and Friday as an initial phase of this week's exercise.
