The firm, Port Systems, will be headed by William Hagenzieker, president of Coastwise Inc., based in Rockport, Maine, and Daniel Labell, president of Westfalia Technologies in York.
Port Systems will market the Container-Cargo Automated Transfer System (C-CATS), which uses a “container sled” to facilitate loading, unloading and inspection of container cargo at seaports.
Hagenzieker holds the patent to the container sled design and concept. Westfalia Technologies designs and manufactures automated warehousing and distribution systems similar to the automated storage and retrieval system, which is integral to C-CATS.
“Greatly enhanced security against theft and the entry of contraband, drugs, and illegal arms is inherent in C-CATS,” Port Systems said. “The system brings highly needed modernization and cost-saving measures to container shipping worldwide.”
The new company’s board also consists of Matthew Reilly, president of Severna Park, Md.-based Celtic Shipping and Projects; Joseph Luciano, president of Carlisle, Pa.-based Letort International Consulting; and (Ret.) Gen. Joseph Franklin, chairman of Mitchel Field, N.Y.-based Frequency Electronics.
