Rickmers creates Korea subsidiary

Rickmers creates Korea subsidiary German breakbulk, heavy-lift and project cargo carrier Rickmers-Linie, has established its own subsidiary in South Korea to handle agency operations and represent the Rickmers Group in the Asian country.
   Rickmers (Korea) Inc. will open for business in Seoul on Nov. 1 when the existing agency agreement started last year with Korea Maritime will be terminated.
   The Hamburg-based carrier, part of the Rickmers Group that has 13,100-TEU ships on order from Korean yards, offers regular sailings fortnightly from Korea to the United States and destinations in Central America, as well as a monthly westbound service from the United States to Korea.
   'With its export oriented industry and as a significant location for shipping and related industries, Korea is one of our key markets in the Far East,” said Gerhard Janssen, Rickmers-Linie’s general manager, marketing and sales.
